I don't know if this has been posted yet, but two people lost their lives trying to outrun a train. I found it on Instagram today.
All joking that it's a Camry aside - I don't know what would encourage someone to do something so stupid.

Natural selection.

Disagree with NSFW tag, there is probably an alarming high amount of people at various workplaces who still jump the lights at level crossings and in many cases shock treatment is the only solution.

Changed - now it's just graphic. I mean, you are watching people die...

People get in a hurry and forget how valuable their lives are.
I think many accidents could be avoided if people just calmed down and accepted the fact they're going to be late.

Fair do.

This not only shows the danger of running a crossing, but just how long it takes one of those freight trains to stop

Did the folks in the car really die? If so, I'm not sure this belongs on Oppo. Not a mod so I can't make that call, but seems like a little much.

Lost a friend in high school because he tried out running a train.

They were probably looking at those fools standing beside the tracks and didn't notice the lights

But can they be melted by jet fuel?

I know if you're even paying a slight amount of attention, 9/10 you can hear the train or see it, but I don't see anything other than warning lights. This just proves people are so stupid they need more than that.

my company built a system specifically designed to prevent this from being possible, but we don't have lobbyists or politicians in our pocket to give us the contract to put them up in any state. Its called the GRABB

This is ridiculous.
I have grown up around train tracks. It used to be apart of our walk around the neighborhood. Even now I live less than a mile away from the RR crossing and can hear the horns when they approach. If the crossing is in any kind of residential area, guards are needed.
When I read it I thought someone was running on foot. Then boom white Toyota. News article says 1/2 mile down track, and there were still rail cars at the crossing.
Say that it sometimes takes people losing their lives to get safety improvements made.

I won't claim to speak for all the mods but in my opinion the post is prefaced by enough a warning that no-one who doesn't want to see such things will be forced to see it.

Fair enough. If this had shown a person trying to run across the tracks and getting hit I might protest a bit harder, but seeing as how that's not the case here and it makes for a teachable moment, I can accept that.

Lost a guy on my construction team because he tried to out run a train. Not only that he went around a barrier to do it. What do people think sometimes?

What is grabb and what does it do?

I have no idea. There were two incidents in the news the past couple weeks where people tried this and failed. I've never been in that much of a rush.

I will go if there is a safety margin of several hundred feet and an uncontrolled crossing but if I see the lights I stop everytime.

I rarely come across trains and it seems the arms drop a good bit of time before the train comes.

They tend to. But I drive in the bush a lot so I come across a lot of uncontrolled crossings. Also industrial parks have a lot of those.
Here is one particularly nightmarish road I used to frequent. Made even better by the alternating, blind one lane bridge at the end! Traffic always.

jesus... honestly, it doesn't look like they saw the train at all. I do like that at least one of the railfans was on his cel calling 911 almost instantly. People make errors...
